An Apartment Overlooking Los Angeles, Blending Luxury With The Busy City Life.

We collaborated tirelessly with our client to completely redesign this home within a tight two-month deadline. We took care of the entire interior design, including furniture, wallpaper, cabinetry, and fixtures, to create a library atmosphere with the twist of a moody lounge. The result is a space that feels collected and very intentional.

When we first met our client, the design direction was swiftly influenced by two places of inspiration: the Los Angeles Public Library and the LA Athletic Club. Our client wanted to blend the atmospheres of these two places, and we achieved this through intentional design choices. We began by studying the interior architecture of these two sites: the classic Spanish style of the Public Library and the retro aesthetic of the Athletic Club. Keeping architectural heritage at the forefront of our minds, we opted for a transitional approach in this project.

In the living area, we covered all the living room walls with a
luxurious Casamance wallpaper to create a moody library/lounge atmosphere. We decided to opt out of a TV and created a quiet space for reading instead. To house all our clients' books, we designed a custom bookcase with a sliding ladder. For the FF&E, we were mainly influenced by the Athletic Club's retro style (right image below). We picked up the bold colors of the Chesterfield sofa and brought those orange tones into our project through the daybed and accent pillows. For the lighting, we specified a transitional chandelier and floor lamp and mixed those in with the more contemporary coffee and drink tables.

Art, Music, & Travels At The Core Of This Collected Home

When understanding our client's background, we came to learn about their deep appreciation of art and music, and the knowledge gained through their travels.

As per our client's request, we retained their existing art collection, which they curated from various parts of the world. The style of these pieces had a big influence on our design choices. From Prague to Russia to New York, this home is for the connoisseurs and adventurers, and we made sure that the home felt exactly like that.

Personal Touches And Cultural Heritage

English Heritage Meets Artistic Expression For A Bespoke Look.

Our client, being of English heritage, requested to bring some of their background into their already culturally-rich home. We catered to this request through small touches that truly make the home feel bespoke. We re-upholstered the piano bench in a classic Gingham pattern fabric that truly adds to the English look. We also got creative with the table lamps by adding a Samuel & Sons trim on the lamp shade.

A Bold, Luxurious, And Functional Approach.

For the bedroom, we took a bold and luxurious approach through the silk, Philip Jeffries wallpaper. We also made some custom silk pillows in blue and orange tones to mirror the color scheme of the living room into the bedroom.

In order to enhance the functionality of the space, we specified a bedframe with a sliding storage compartment. We also went for two different nightstand styles: one with drawers, on the right side, and a cylindrical side table, on the left side, to save space and allow for an adjacent storage chest on the left side.
